Projects / Commission / Birling Estate Kent
Birling Estate comprises of 1800 acres nestled along the North Downs of Kent in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Originally part of the possessions of Odo, Bishop of Baieux, half brother of William the Conqueror, the manor of Birling came to the Nevill’s in 1435 when Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Worcester married Sir Edward Nevill and the estate has remained in the family since then.
I was commissioned by Guy Nevill to photograph the estate, creating a library of images for editorial and online use. From these images four were chosen as a retirement present for the Estate manager after 30 years of service.
“I picked Sarah's picture of Trebawith, Cornwall as our cover image for Coast Magazine as I felt she'd really captured the beauty that can be found at the coast around this time of year. The stormy greys and blacks are made breath taking by the gloriously golden light spilling over the sea and beach from a break in the clouds.”
